Johan van Lierop is a New York based architect and designer with over 15 years of International experience in the field. Born in the Netherlands, van Lierop studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Maastricht earning a BA degree in Interior and Product design and later received his Master of Science degree in Architecture at the prestigious Delft University of Technology. 

Upon graduation, van Lierop relocated to New York City where he landed a position at renowned Steven Holl Architects, working on world class commissions such as the Nelson Atkins Art museum in Kansas City and the Langelois Hotel in Austria.  Following his tenure at Holl, van Lierop joined Ten Arquitectos and was a key member of the high profile Guggenheim Museum project in Guadalajara, Mexico. Van Lierop is currently a Principal architect at Studio Libeskind and runs his own studio, Architales, out of Brooklyn. 

The scope of van Lierop's work moves across all scales -small to extra large-,  ranging from product design to master planning,  complex mixed-use programs and product design.

At Studio Libeskind, Van Lierop was the project architect for Crystals, a large high-end retail and public space complex on the Las Vegas strip, which is the world’s largest retail district to receive a LEED Gold certification. which opened in 2009; the project architect for the Centre De Congrès in Mons, Belgium, which opened in early 2015, and a key member of the team for the Zhang Zhidong Museum in Wuhan, China, set to open in 2017.

At his personal studio Architales, Van Lierop embraces a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to design. A range of cross-pollination projects  from art installations to VR design. His collaboration with artists such as New York- Berlin based artist

has designed several houses in his native countey active in a number of programs. In 2012?? He served as the XXX for the Green Architecture committee in Amsterdam, and recently completed a private commission for Blendt Villa in Lommel, Belgium. WHAT ELSE CAN WE LIST HERE? Van Lierop is a visiting critic at Parsons The New School of Design’s “School of Constructed Environments” Program in New York and is a member of the Buckminster Fuller Institute.
